Students will be introduced to the elements and concepts of two-dimensional design. Familiarity with the terminology and concepts used by visual artists will be explored in an interactive environment. An understanding of two dimensional design principles (balance, movement, contrast, typography, photography, branding, etc...) Centered around critique and the fascination with design. Cultivating an eye for design while discovering traditional techniques that are still relevant in the digital realm.
Scenarios of working with critique and sharing group concepts are explored during the design process. Building a strong foundation in how best to communicate design ideas and describe the reasoning behind decisions and then defend these ideas and reasons competently, not defensively, in a compelling manner.
Students will be required to keep a sketchbook journal that will be carried throughout all courses. No software knowledge or purchase required.
